At the young of 19, on May 13, Haley Taylor Schlitz will defy all laws practicality by becoming the youngest graduate ever from Southern Methodist University’s law school. Schlitz is an author, public speaker and advocate for young women and individuals of color who faces obstacles of navigation through gifted and talented programs in public schools. Haley faced challenges of being acknowledged as a gifted student within her school’s gifted and talented program, which helped her parents make the conscious decision to home school Haley after their realization that their daughter was immensely gifted, but not properly supported. Schlitz would go on to graduate high school at the age of 13. At the age of 16, she would become the youngest graduate to walk across the stage of Texas Woman’s University. Haley Schlitz epitomizes the term “prodigy”, by demonstrating her intellect, compassion, and kindness. Once she graduates, the teenager plans on using her new educational acquisition to work on education policies and increase opportunities for gifted students of color.
